Chromium doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Cr4+:YAG) is an excellent crystal for passive Q-switching of neodymium doped yttrium aluminum garnet, neodymium doped YLF, neodymium doped Yttrium vanadate, and other neodymium doped or ytterbium-doped lasers with wavelengths from 0.8 to 1.2μm. Sufficient laser pulses can be obtained without the need for electro-optic switches through passive Q-switching or saturated absorbers, thus reducing the size and eliminating the need to supply high voltage energy. It will replace the commonly used LiF and dyes in the field of passive Q-switched switching and become an excellent choice for 1um doped Nd lasers.
